I started at like 4 or 5 but we never did splits. I only started doing splits at 9 in another activity.
But actually it’s true , splits don’t have age limitations haha.

Just practice … Just practice everyday. Push yourself a little but not too much. You should feel the stretch but if you feel sharp pains then stop. Just push yourself a little further everyday. Do a side split and aim for your stomach to reach the ground. Remember to keep your knees straight. The split doesn’t have to be 180 degrees. It will get there slowly. Hope that helps (:

lol! my ballet teacher stretches us a LOT when we do the second stretch in this video we can all basically bring our leg next to our ear so she makes us lift up our backs
